Alexis K-5 Graduating Class of 2010

From kindergarten to highschool to post-secondary, graduation is a special time in a students life. The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation honors every graduate through tribal custom.
It is customary to present an eagle feather to an "academic achiever".  While kindergarten students are exempt from this practice (at least until they reach highschool), they are recognized and praised for successfully completing thier first year of school.

The Alexis Board of Education, along with the Alexis Elders, Chief and Council and School Staff, honor students with a special graduation ceremony, prayers, feast, honor songs and gifts from the alter to those students who have succssefully graduated and obtained a diploma, certificate, degree, masters or Ph.D from any academic institution.

What a wonderful ceremony and way to bless our future leaders, business executives, bankers, finance administrators, lawyers, doctors, nurses, environmentalists, engineers, teachers, writers, researchers, actors, actresses, artists and social workers.

"Dugawa, in the pursuit of academic achievement, we offer prayers for your journey. We ask the Creator to bless you and to guide your path as you continue your academic studies. We ask the Holy One to lead you, to help you in times of great need so that you may honor your gifts. Let the fruits of your studies help your people and inspire the next generation of graduates. For this we ask in Waka Cii Cii's name. Amen ~+~"
