Stoney Language Training Certification

Are you fluent in Stoney Language?

The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation has a large number of fluent Stoney speaking members. Out of 1,700 band members, only 2 band members are using their skill to teach Stoney Language full-time. This number could be due to lack of employment opportunities but with a vision to educate every member in Alexis to read, write and speak the Stoney language fluently, the need to expand resources are a must!
The Alexis Heritage Institute is proposing to train potential Stoney Language Instructors, Researchers and Transcribers to expand the Stoney Language Program by the year 2014.

Stoney Language Instructors are needed to teach in other Academic Institutions and within the Heritage Institute to conduct research, transcribe articles, videos and literature.
If you speak fluent Stoney and are interested in a teaching or researching career, please contact Elizabeth Letendre, Director of Heritage and Language for a possible training dates.
